Artist statement
I create image.
In my work, I mostly use my own expressions and emotions as references, which clearly involve my personal journey. I am influenced by the Bengali women who have been a constant presence in my life. This connection is why almost all my works feel related to each other in some form or shape.
My main subjects are often myself and women, more specifically Bengali women. I use the stature, attire, and postures of Bengali women. I feel connected to their journey as it mirrors my own. I take that as my subject to express those emotions with a contemporary touch.
Most of my recent works are mixed media drawings. More recently, the pen has become a key element along with mixed canvas and acrylics. Speaking of colors, I prefer a limited color palette. I have focused on more detailed expressions with tones and layers. In my practice, I mostly use self-photography as reference, sometimes from other sources. The subjects of my works might not have any personal relation to me; however, I feel connected to them through my roots and culture.
